Part of Analjit Singh’s Leeu Collection, and with Michelin-starred Simon Rogan overseeing the kitchen, Linthwaite House brings a touch of class to the Lake District. This spawling Edwardian house exudes elegance, and is graced by the founder’s art collection, indoors and out.
On a hill above Windermere, the hotel is well-positioned to explore some of Britain’s most beautiful scenery, and there’s plenty to do in and around the hotel, too.
Choose a bedroom in the main house with views of the exquisite gardens and the lake and mountains beyond, splash out on a suite in the loft or take a ride in the golf buggy to a secluded chalet in the grounds amid the woods with your own veranda and hot tub. Families are welcome.
Guests can take a leisurely walk around the 14 acres of gardens and woodlands, contemplating the sculptures as well as the natural flora and fauna. Or hop into one of Linthwaite’s rowing boats for a cruise around the private tarn and test your skill on the boules pitch or giant chess set.
Then it’s afternoon tea on the terrace or drinks in the conservatory, looking out over Lake Windermere. Here bar manager Andreas Grammatikopoulos and his team adopt the Linthwaite sustainability ethos by making cocktails from scratch and using the whole plant to reduce waste.
Henrock is Simon Rogan’s restaurant, run by a team inspired by their culinary travels around the globe yet following Rogan’s philosophy of creating imaginative farm-to-table dishes by working with local growers, much of the produce coming from the chef’s own smallholding a few miles away in the Cartmel Valley.
There’s an inventive wine list, including selections from the owner’s South African winery, and an extensive choice of other drinks with exclusive cocktails and mocktails, craft beers and a huge variety of spirits on the list.
